05/02/07 Where is the Recovery Community? PDF Print E-mail

Greetings,

I have been going back and forth with this notion of blogging.  I believe I have lots to say and now that I have an audience, I have suddenly been at a loss for words.

I have chosen at least for now to talk about living in recovery from the disease of addiction.  To get the dialogue going I ask, where is the Recovery Community?  Why haven’t we been able to rally ourselves to work for others who are living with active disease and those who continue to relapse?  Are we standing up and being counted?  Are you standing up and being counted?

We need to let people know the good news, “We Do Recover."  Most people only know the pain and suffering associated with active alcoholism and drug addiction.  Very few know of the hope and healing that recovery brings.  For the individual, for the family and for the community, we have a message to carry and we are negligent if we are not doing so.

Therefore, I challenge you to do your part.  And am eager to know what you are doing to pass it on.

Until next time,

Peace, Jan
